What will the internet look like in 5 years?

The internet would not look too much different than it does now in just five years. It will still play
a significant role in our lives like it does today, as it is still essential for networking, researching,
engineering and design. We used to think of the future as something completely bizarre and seemingly
unreachable. Movies depicted the future with time travel, teleportation, and space travel. However, by now
we already know that none of these things will happen suddenly. Realistically, the internet will develop
gradually, and we probably will not even be able to notice any drastic changes. Instagram was created in 2010,
and it is hard to believe that it has already been ten full years since it was first launched. Its interface
gradually became minimalistic and easier to use, but the original purpose of the app did not change all that much.

Therefore, in five years, app interfaces would become even easier to use for everyone, with creators and
designers paying more attention to inclusive design and different aspects of diversity. There would also likely
be many new social media apps that become trendy, and a lot of websites and apps that are popular right now would
slowly start to die out. In terms of digital consent, hopefully more designers would think about user risks, and
how to make their sites safer for everyone. Optimistically, people will know what data they are giving out, and
where their information goes, and developers would stop storing user’s datas and make privacy a priority.
But, it could also go the opposite way where users' privacy could become even more commoditized than it is now.
